Simply put, it's a regular. Homegrown and hometown, we celebrate you. The regular. The local. The newcomer.
Because at Denizens Brewing Co. we're all Unified by Beer.
We live by a few simple beliefs.
We believe that the best products are made locally, and that everyone has a right to fresh, local craft beer.
Drinking beer close to where it’s brewed gives us a better product and does right by the local economy and environment. From bag of grain to pint glass, making beer is our passion, and sharing our product with you is at the heart of what we do. Only five years ago, none of this would have been possible in some parts of Maryland, so we worked with government and community leaders to remove unnecessary, prohibition-era barriers, enabling an expansion in local beer production and distribution.
We believe every brewery should be a gathering place for the community.
There’s no craft beer type; craft beer belongs to all of us. We welcome beer fans to our taprooms in Silver Spring and Riverdale Park seven days a week. We celebrate birthdays and anniversaries, and we get to know our guests’ four legged friends. From partnering with the University of Maryland to grow yeast strains, to giving our used grains to Maryland farmers, to hosting fundraisers for local non-profits, we are a community-based company.
We believe in the power and opportunity of US manufacturing.
In addition to brewing our beer in downtown Silver Spring and Riverdale Park, we carry Maryland products whenever possible, including locally produced wine, mead, cider, and liquor. We are proud to once again be listed with other local Maryland businesses in the Montgomery County Food and Beverage Guide. We also work with US companies for all of our merchandise so we can provide a higher quality product while supporting other US businesses.

Beer
We brew to honor time-tested traditions and styles, while also pushing the boundaries that define craft beer. With four flagship beers showcasing traditional lager, ale, and Belgian styles, and rotating seasonal selections highlighting our barrel aging and sour programs, we’ve got a style to suit every taste. At 100 beers and counting since opening in 2014, we’ve got no plans of slowing down.
Come in any time during business hours for pints (avg. $7), growlers (avg. $13), and cans (avg. $10). We also serve local liquor, wine, cider, and mead, as well as an assortment of non-alcoholic options. Our happy hour is $2 off all pints and growler fills Mon-Fri from 4-7 PM.

We bring the same passion and creativity of our brewing process to our kitchen, where our made-from-scratch menu features seasonal, shareable plates you can enjoy with your favorite DBC brew. Need some guidance on how to pair beer with your next meal? We got you.
Each taproom offers up some fan favorites, with a few unique twists. Check out our menus for Riverdale Park and Silver Spring. Our brunch menu is available Saturday and Sunday from 11 AM - 3 PM in both Riverdale Park and Silver Spring. Our happy hour is $2 off all shareable plates Mon-Fri from 4-7 PM. Our menu is also available on Uber Eats. Some dishes can be modified to accommodate dietary restrictions. Please notify your server or bartender of any food allergies.

Team
Your beer is our business. And oh, it’s serious.
Owners Emily Bruno, Jeff Ramirez, and Julie Verratti launched Denizens Brewing Co. in 2014 to bring the camaraderie of the brewery taproom to the DMV. Emily and Julie – locals and recovering office dwellers – joined forces with their brother-in-law Jeff, a veteran of the CO and PA beer scenes, to create a space where anyone could pull up a chair, grab a pint, and enjoy. Denizens is the only woman and minority owned and operated brewery in Maryland and a proud member of the Silver Spring and Riverdale Park communities.
We’re lucky to have an awesome and growing team that shares a true love of craft. We don’t take ourselves too seriously, unless it’s in finding an excuse to celebrate. Interested in joining us? Email us.

The beer garden in Silver Spring is 21+ on Friday and Saturday evenings after 8 PM; the indoor taproom is an alternative option for families after 8 PM on weekend evenings. If you are interested in sitting in our beer garden area, please plan your family visits to Silver Spring on a week night or during the day on a weekend.

Derek Ellis
Aged in Kentucky bourbon barrels, Derek is a poetic melding of earthy, southern flavors with a bright DMV flare. A small pitch of English literature, philosophy, and music were added to some of the barrels, making for a well-rounded and approachable ale. At first glance, Derek’s ABV may seem intense, but rest assured he’s perfect for slow nights with friends, sipping intermittently late into the evening while reading a good book, or working away on your artsy side hustle.

Pronounced Say-bra, this beer hails from Iowa and contains strong Honduran hops. High in carbonation and energy, you can find this full-body brew on tap at any local music venue, airport, or art gallery (also 6-packs found in most mini fridges.) Sabra is paired best with crab rangoons and Asian foods. With strong aromas of the library and Urban Outfitters, this craft finds trends and makes them classic. Best enjoyed whenever you need a cold one.

Jackson Wilke
Flavor Notes: Earthy & Fruity
Brewed in the DMV Region, this approachable, yet complex local first came on the craft beer scene in 2013. Time spent farming in the Hudson Valley & in Amherst, MA lends floral & barnyardy notes; heavy additions of community organizing & political work in the boil add a distinctly bitter quality. Jackson pairs well with seafood, music, & friends; best enjoyed standing knee-deep in a creek somewhere.

Ben Hunter
Flavor Profile: Tart and Funky
With a distinctly southern heritage, this bubbly concoction features a vibrant, southern twangy flavor. Brewery-conditioned, Ben continues to evolve, displaying a broader depth and complexity with time. Strong aromas of passion and nerdiness, coupled with one of the more outgoing cultures of Brettanomyces Benii make for a unique personality. Extremely versatile, Ben is friendly and easily adaptable to almost any palate. Unfiltered and medium-bodied, Ben’s musical tones harmonize well with the rugged outdoors.

Pets: 2 Dogs
Bucket List: Having a beer with Hillary Clinton
Favorite Food: Sandwiches of all kinds – I don’t discriminate
Guilty Pleasure: Cheeseburgers

Jeff Ramirez
Flavor Profile: Earthy and Sour
Hailing from New Jersey, this beer hit the DMV craft beer scene after guest appearances at breweries in Philadelphia and Boulder. Complex and aromatic, Jeff starts out subtle, but opens up to a fusion of bold and balanced flavors while finishing dry and inappropriate. Best enjoyed in moderation up a mountain, near a river, or resting on the stoop.
Emily Bruno
Flavor Profile: Bold and Effusive
Packing a flavor punch with a slightly sour finish, Emily has roots in PA and New England, and now proudly calls Silver Spring home. This barrel-aged gem has influences from global travel in Africa and South Asia. Cerebral and technically skillful, this beer adapts to each palette with gusto. Best enjoyed at the beach after yoga or a run with the dogs, or while gardening or painting found objects in the backyard.
